CISF is a part of India's Central Armed Police Force. It was formed on 10 March 1969 with the aim to develop a central security force to protect key industrial and governmental establishments such as nuclear, mines, space establishments, airports, seaports, power plants, etc. CISF has since become a premier multi-skilled organization and has a strength of more than 160,000 personnel. CISF now provides security cover to more than 350 establishments including important government buildings, heritage monuments, and the Delhi metro. It also has specialized VIP security vertical to provide security cover to important people nominated by the Ministry of Home Affairs (India).
It is headquartered in New Delhi, India, and is governed by India's Ministry of Home Affairs.
