On July 19, 2024, the Municipal Administration & Urban Development (MA&UD) department issued a GO (Number 99) creating a single agency for disaster management in Telangana Core Urban Region (TCUR).
The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency is an agency under the Telangana State Government of India. Some of the main functions of the agency are as under:
- Asset Protection: Protecting public properties of significance e.g., Parks, Lakes, and Roads. The agency also approves and inspects private properties to ensure they are compliant with various building regulations.
- Disaster Management: HYDRAA coordinates with multiple agencies such as NDRF and SDMA to provide suitable disaster response. It mitigates potential threats to public properties and life with proper planning and coordination with local authorities.
- Logistical Support: HYDRAA maintains a fleet of logistical vehicles and IT infrastructure for its day-to-day operations and management. The agency also provides training and support to the general public for disaster preparedness, management, and relief.
- Traffic Coordination and Management: HYDRAA coordinates with traffic police to direct traffic away from affected areas in case of a disaster. This helps maintain smooth traffic without any threat to life.
