CD drives are digital optical storage drives that are up to 700 MB in size. The storage type was co-invented by Sony and Philips in 1982. Once can write different forms of data (including images, videos, audios, documents and other file types) on a CD. Many compact discs only allow one time writing to disc (this process of writing data to a disc is called disc burning), after which the data can be read multiple times i.e. until the disc is physically damaged. Newer types of CD, also known as CD-RW (Compact Disk - Read/Write) allow writing multiple times to the same disc.
